Roman Prostitution Through Plautus’ Theatre

The main issue addressed in this paper is the study of prostitution business mid-Republican period from point view theatre. Theatre appeared Rome 240 BC, and, that time on, we find plays are great value to our understanding Roman society period. For reason, will focus on comedies Plautus, representing genre fabula palliata. By taking documentation as a basis, one can analyse role prostitutes and procurers his comedies, whom given extensive information through humour. Despite possible exaggerations, models used by author allow us approach reality (the end 3rd 2nd century BC).
